If you are given two plastic bottles of water the one is reusable and the other one will be a normal water bottle you will definitely keep the reusable one and discard the normal water bottle but after that have you ever think that what will happen to that discarded water bottle......??
It will go for dumping and a report says that only ten to twenty percent of that gets recycled plastic takes five hundred to six hundred years to decompose....rest of the time it only creates pollution ......
But imagine somehow we can turn this plastic into fuel.....is it sounds interesting..??
Yes there is a method by which you can turn the plastic into fuels in the form of gases like ethane methane and other hydrocarbons....
So now you are definitely thinking that then why we are not using this method , although this can be a boon to mother earth...??
Actually at present this method is used at very low scale because it has some disadvantages too..
- First of all the energy produced by the fuels is very low if compared to the energy required to make the fuel from plastic
- Second one is that the fuel produced by the plastics contain impurities so it needs to be filtered to obtain the pure fuel filtration further requires money and energy.
However you can also make this fuel from plastic at your home just by making a simple setup-
REQUIREMENTS
- A big container of iron or steel
- a pipe of iron
- plastic pipes
- small container to collect the fuel
PROCEDURE
Take the big container of steel or iron fill it with the small pieces of plastic bottles connect the iron pipe to it make sure that there must not be small or big hole other than one which is connected to the iron pipe the iron pipe is further connected to the plastic pipe and the other end of the plastic pipe must be connected to the container to collect the fuel and the container must be half dipped into the water to condense the vapors of the gases.......
WORKING
Plastic is made up of hydrocarbons mainly ethane and ethylene long chain of ethane make polythene which further makes plastic.
so when these plastics is heated up in the absence of oxygen its bonds gets broken and it gets converted into gases like ethane, methane, and other hydrocarbons including organic wax.....
Gases like ethane and methane can be used a s fuels..
So in our setup we heat the big container containing plastic bottles, its bonds get broke and it gets converted into gases further these gases passes through the pipes to container gets cooled and gets converted into liquid form....
